We had an awesome adventure at the New Bedford Community Boating center yesterday with almost 30 Explorers and parents. We had a lesson from the center about the different parts of the boat, how the sailboats work and how they are constructed. They explained to the kids about how different materials affect the life of a boat and the corrosive effects of salt water, especially with the combination with certain metals. We even got a little history lesson about the Archimedes Principal, which was fascinating!
The kids were engaged to getting the boats ready to set sail, got out on the water for about an hour, and each got a chance to work different parts of the boat and to steer.
The Community Boating Center is about to start their summer programs. Check them out for a wonderful hands-on learning experience for your child.
